This is definitely creepy, I could see it as an illustration in a book.

Is it described as this in the book as a bunch of tentavles with hands at the ends instead of the movie's cephalapod like monster?

It's just described having gripping fingers at the ends of the tentacles, and this is my interpretation of that. Actual hands might well be an overinterpretation, but that's the way I imagined it when reading it and it was a creepy-fun thing to draw, anyway. (:

This painting reminds me of some of John Bauer's works, with the way the trees frame the picture, and the overall darkness. I like it. :)

I like the fact that you drew the thing with hands. It kind of gives off a feel that this thing, whatever it is, is more than just a foul octopus, that there's probably something really big, really nasty, and quite monstrous lurking in the fetid dark waters outside of Moria.

More than any other, you've done a good job of capturing Tolken's idea of something being really quite unwholesome in those waters.

Thank you so much for the nice comment!
I mustn't take all credit for the hands though, because it was described having fingers in the end of the tentacles, in the book. :)

Isn't it! This illustration made me realise I've been unconsciously avoiding the creepier sides of LotR while drawing fanart.... must try and fix this habit. ;)
